Q&A with Pistons GT's Connor

Writer: Trenton ReedTrenton Reed

Updated: Nov 5, 2023

In today's post, I caught up with Connor of Pistons GT to discuss his high expectations for the squad in 2024 and more!

Q: After a very successful rookie season with Pistons GT in 2023, what accomplishments are you most proud of and what are some things that you are working on going into the 2024 season?

A: “There are a lot of things to be proud of this past season, but I’d say winning the SLAM OPEN is what I’m most proud of. This off-season, I’m just working on the little things honestly, like securing box outs, getting back under the slip instead of praying for a crazy lane steal, and becoming more of a leader on the court.”

Q: Pistons GT picks at number 3 and number 27 in the 2024 NBA 2K League Draft. With the core of Ant, newly acquired Jomar, and yourself, what are you looking for from your future teammates?

A: “For our future teammates you know we’re looking for a shooting guard and a frontcourt player. We want two guys that will work hard every day and be good vibe guys in a way because I’m a firm believer that you have to enjoy playing with your teammates if you want to have success in this league.”

Q: What matchup did you enjoy the most during the 2023 season with Pistons GT and why?

A: “ My favorite matchup from this past season was probably the T-Wolves series in the SLAM OPEN Finals. I’d say it was my favorite because it was my first ever finals in the league and their roster at the time was full of the guys I was playing with when I first got into pro-am in 2k18. “

Q: When your career is all said and done, what do you want your legacy to be?

A: “When I’m done playing in the 2K League, I want to go down as one of the greatest frontcourt players ever to play. I think my offensive skill set really gives me a chance to separate myself from the other great frontcourt players in the past. Not only that, I just want to be remembered as a good guy in the league. I take a lot of pride in being a good person and never having problems with anyone in the community. “

Q: After playing the retail version of the game with Ant for years, what is it like to play with him in the NBA 2K League?

A: “Playing with Ant is super easy honestly you know, that’s been my guy since 2k19. We’ve been winning together every year. Having that chemistry with Ant allows me to shine on offense because I know what he’s looking for and he has the trust in me to call my own number whenever I feel like I can get something for us. There’s honestly no difference between playing retail and in the league with him, he’s always the same person. “

Q: What can Pistons GT fans expect from the team in 2024?

A: “In season 7, Pistons fans can expect the same level of success in threes from the past 2 seasons, and they should expect the best 5s season in the history of Pistons GT.”

Q: What is it like playing under Head Coach Duone and what sets him apart from other coaches within the league?

A: “Playing for Coach Duone is honestly a blessing, he does a really good job of letting us be ourselves. When we’re on stage, I get really into it and play with tons of emotion. Duone always makes sure I don’t get too high or too low. He’s never talking over the comms, he calls out the little things we are messing up on and he calls shot clocks for us. The last thing I’ll say about playing for coach Duone is that if he’s your coach, you’ll never have to worry about anything. He will do everything in his power to make sure everything and everyone is good.”

Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies during the NBA 2K League offseason?

A: “This is my first ever off-season in the 2KLeague and it’s a little odd honestly. I think this is my first fall in 7-8 years that I’m not playing football. But in the off- season I go to school, hang out with friends and I really enjoy this 2k so I’ve been trying to perfect my craft for this upcoming season. “

Q: Which NBA 2KL team are you looking forward to playing the most next season and why?

A: I’m looking forward to playing either the Lakers or Warriors next season the most honestly. We went 0-4 vs the Warriors in total games vs the Warriors in 5s and it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I’m looking forward to the Lakers because Kaii and Krazy are finally together and they are two of the guys I came up with in this community. “

Q: If you had to compare your style of play to an NBA Player, who would you compare yourself to?

A: “ If I had to compare myself to an NBA player I’d say I’m like Anthony Davis. I’m the type of player that can be the best defensive player on the court, but at the same time, I could also be the best offensive player on the court depending on the game.”
