In today's post, I caught up with Cavs Legion GC's DjayTooCold to discuss his bold predictions for the 2024 NBA 2K League season and more!
Q: After one season with NBL Oz gaming, you were acquired in a trade package from Cavs Legion GC. What was that process like for you and how are you feeling as you begin this next chapter of your career?
A: “The process went very well. When I heard the T-wolves were breaking up, there was an opportunity to meet back up with my old vets. I knew this opportunity was something I couldn’t miss out on! I’m very excited for my new chapter with a new org. I plan to be here for a very long time. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
Q: Cavs Legion GC enters the 2024 season with the team already assembled. How excited are you to take the court with your new teammates in Killeyy and Antoine, as well as reunite with your former teammates in TBshiftay and Slaughter?
A: “I’m very excited to have a full five before the season starts. Killey and Toine are really good friends of mine. I was excited when I was coming to the land with Toine and was excited that we could add Killey. TB and Slaughter, we go way back and that was pretty much the reason the Cavs was my first option to go to in the offseason! “
Q: Where do you feel you made the biggest jump in your game compared to last season up to now?
A: “The biggest jump in my game that I improved on is my leadership. In season five as a rookie, I did lead my defense, but I was the last option. I came into season six with a different mindset which helped my leadership improve a lot to where my teammates really could trust me and we came out with a top 3 defense. So coming to the Cavs, I know my leadership will come in handy. I learned a lot from the last two seasons, and I feel like I am going to make an impact in my third season.”
Q: Recently, Cavs Legion GC announced that they have hired Mike Newton as their Head Coach for the 2024 Season. He won a championship with Warriors Gaming Squad last season. What is it going to take for Cavs Legion GC to win the NBA 2K League 5v5 title next year?
A: “Hiring coach Mike was very exciting. He has been coaching in the league for a long time. All you hear is good things about him, he knows what it takes to win so all of the guys and I just need to buy in and adjust to how he operates and we're gonna be successful this season and I finally get that ring. “
Q: After falling in the NBA 2K League 5v5 finals last season with NBL Oz Gaming, what did you learn from that series, and what strides are you looking to take this season?
A: “I learned a lot from losing in finals. My main focus for this offseason is to outwork everyone that comes with watching film on myself, getting my mental right and just grinding 2k and working on the areas that I need to improve on.”
Q: Who’s your biggest inspiration?
A: “ My biggest inspiration is my mom. She held her own raising 3 kids. She is a very supportive and positive person. Win or lose, she always keeps my head up straight. She’s the real reason I have this energy every day all day. Just her positive energy keeps me going.”
Q: When did you first realize you were good enough to pursue the NBA 2K League?
A: “So my first year ever playing competitive pro-am was the year I got drafted. I knew from the jump that I could get in. All you really needed to do to get in was to shoot very well and talk on defense and that’s what I was very good at, so making it in the league my first year trying was surprising for a lot of other people, but for me it was too easy. I just needed my super confidence and my skills and I knew I could make it. “
Q: What’s your favorite part about the NBA 2K League outside of gameplay?
Q: Earlier this off-season, The NBA 2K League announced a partnership with the National Basketball Players Association. In your opinion, how will this partnership help grow the league for years to come?
A: “My favorite part about the NBA 2K League outside of gameplay is the activities that you do with your teammates. It’s a lot of fun. You can get to know your teammates better, learn different things, and build that trust so when it comes game time you know they got your back like you got theirs. Another thing that I enjoy is going to the NBA games of the team that you represent. “
Q: Do you have any bold predictions for the 2024 season?
A: “ My bold prediction for season seven of the NBA 2K League is that Cavs Legion will be champions in both modes, 3v3 and 5v5!”
