Writer: Trenton ReedTrenton Reed

Updated: Nov 6, 2023

In today’s post, I caught up with Mooch to discuss what he learned during his rookie season with the Raptors and much more.

Q:What was the biggest thing you learned about the NBA 2K League in your rookie season with Raptors Uprising GC?

A: “ I learned a lot in my first year. I think the biggest thing I learned was how much leadership matters and what it takes to win.”

Q: What areas of your game are you looking to improve upon the most this offseason?

A: “I really want to improve on being a leader and keeping my composure throughout the course of a game no matter what’s going on.”

Q: With a limited number of Point Guard spots open for the 2024 season, how do you plan to separate yourself from other prospects at your position?

A: “I think I have a very solid résume compared to a lot of the prospects and I think I had a solid year in the league last year. That plus me grinding the game and winning this year should help me separate from the majority of the prospects.”

Q: Earlier this offseason, the NBA 2K League and the National Basketball Players Association announced a partnership. In your opinion, how will this help the league grow for years to come?

A: “I think the NBPA partnership is huge for the league. It allows players and organizations to collaborate with the NBA which should bring a lot more fans and popularity to the NBA 2K League.”

Q: Do you have any favorite memories from this past season with Raptors Uprising?

A: “ My favorite memory from last season would probably be playing in front of my family in 3s early in the season or fighting back and beating Magic Gaming to earn our spot in THE TURN bracket play.”

Q: When did you first start playing NBA 2K competitively?

A: “ I started playing 2K competitively around 2K21 current gen.”

Q: What has been your favorite competitive Pro-Am series so far this pre-draft and why?

A: “Probably the series against Breakout because I had such a good game one and we won. Then, we proceeded to lose two straight games and I didn’t play that well. Steals gave me a lot of problems and helped me highlight the mistakes I was making while handling the ball.”

Q: How are you feeling headed into this year’s NBA 2K League draft process compared to last season’s draft process?

A: “This year’s draft process feels a lot like last year. I think the biggest difference is that It’s a shorter pre-draft and I have a year of experience under my belt.”

Q: What else would you be pursuing if you weren’t pursuing the league?

A: “ I would most likely be coaching High School Basketball and helping with skill development.”

Q: What is something that sticks out during the NBA 2K League interview process that other prospects may not realize?

A: “I think one thing that sticks out to me is how important the type of person you are off the game matters to coaches and orgs when making their decision.”
